Ingredients

In this Samoan adaptation of tostadas, we incorporate the vibrant flavors of Samoa by using tropical ingredients such as pineapple and lime in the salsa. The traditional Mexican toppings are replaced with a fresh and tangy pineapple salsa, adding a unique twist to the dish. Additionally, the tortillas can be made using taro root flour, a staple in Samoan cuisine, to give them an authentic Samoan touch. We alse have the original recipe for Tostadas de salsa, so you can check it out.

Treat your ingredients with care...

  • Pineapple — Make sure to use ripe and juicy pineapple for the salsa to enhance the sweetness and flavor.
  • Taro root flour tortillas — If using taro root flour, adjust the amount of liquid in the tortilla dough as taro root flour tends to absorb more moisture than regular flour.

Tips & Tricks

  • For added crunch, you can sprinkle some toasted coconut flakes on top of the tostadas.
  • If you prefer a spicier salsa, add some finely chopped chili peppers to the pineapple salsa.
  • Experiment with different toppings such as diced avocado or shredded coconut for additional Samoan flavors.

Serving advice

Serve the Samoan-style tostadas as an appetizer at a tropical-themed party or as a light lunch alongside a fresh green salad. They are best enjoyed immediately after assembling to maintain the crispiness of the tortillas.

Presentation advice

Arrange the tostadas on a platter and garnish with a sprig of fresh cilantro. The vibrant colors of the pineapple salsa will make the dish visually appealing. Serve with lime wedges on the side for an extra burst of citrus flavor.
