Ingredients
In this Balinese adaptation of Bobotie, we incorporate Balinese spices such as turmeric, ginger, lemongrass, and chili to infuse the dish with the distinct flavors of Balinese cuisine. Additionally, we replace some of the traditional ingredients with Balinese staples like coconut milk to add a creamy and slightly sweet element to the dish. Preparation

1.Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

2.In a large pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until golden and fragrant.

3.Add the ground beef to the pan and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.

4.Stir in the turmeric powder, ginger powder, chili powder, and bruised lemongrass. Cook for another 2 minutes to allow the spices to release their flavors.

5.Remove the lemongrass stalk from the mixture and discard.

6.Add the soaked bread to the pan and mix well to combine with the meat mixture.

7.Pour in the coconut milk and season with salt. Stir until everything is well combined.

8.Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and spread it evenly.

9.In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs and pour them over the meat mixture in the baking dish.

10.Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden and set.

11.Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.

12.Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve with fragrant rice or steamed vegetables.
