Ingredients
While the original Greek Gyros typically uses lamb or pork as the main protein, our Italian adaptation features succulent slices of marinated chicken or beef. Additionally, we incorporate Italian herbs and spices such as oregano, basil, and garlic to infuse the dish with the distinct flavors of Italy. The traditional tzatziki sauce is replaced with a zesty tomato and basil sauce, adding a touch of Italian flair. We alse have the original recipe for Gyros, so you can check it out.

Treat your ingredients with care...
- Chicken or beef — For the most tender and flavorful meat, thinly slice it against the grain. This will ensure that the meat remains juicy and tender after cooking.
- Italian-style flatbreads or pita breads — If you can't find Italian-style flatbreads, you can use regular pita breads as a substitute. Just make sure to warm them up before assembling the Gyros to enhance their texture.
Tips & Tricks
- To add an extra layer of flavor, you can brush the flatbreads or pita breads with olive oil and lightly toast them on a grill or in a skillet before assembling the Gyros.
- If you prefer a spicier kick, you can sprinkle some crushed red pepper flakes on top of the assembled Gyros.
- Feel free to customize your Italian-style Gyros by adding other Mediterranean-inspired ingredients such as olives, feta cheese, or roasted red peppers.
Serving advice
Serve the Italian-style Gyros with a side of mixed greens dressed in a light vinaigrette for a refreshing and balanced meal. You can also serve it with a side of Italian-style roasted potatoes or a simple tomato and cucumber salad.
Presentation advice
For an appealing presentation, place the Italian-style Gyros on a platter and garnish with fresh basil leaves. Serve it with a lemon wedge on the side for an extra burst of citrus flavor.
