Treat your ingredients with care...
- Plantain — Make sure the plantain is ripe but still firm for easy slicing and cooking.
- Black beans — If using canned black beans, rinse them thoroughly before using to remove excess sodium.
- Spring roll wrappers — Keep the wrappers covered with a damp cloth to prevent them from drying out while assembling the rolls.
Tips & Tricks
- For a spicier kick, add a few drops of hot sauce or a pinch of chili flakes to the filling mixture.
- Serve the spring rolls with a refreshing mango salsa or a zesty lime dipping sauce.
- If you prefer a lighter version, you can bake the spring rolls in the oven instead of frying them.
- Experiment with different fillings such as shrimp, shredded pork, or roasted vegetables to create your own Cuban-inspired spring rolls.
- To make ahead, you can assemble the spring rolls and freeze them. Just thaw before frying or baking.
