Ingredients
In this Guamanian adaptation of Halve Hahn, we replace the traditional German rye bread with a soft and slightly sweet bun. The original dish typically uses cured meat, but we substitute it with marinated grilled chicken for a healthier and more tropical twist. Additionally, we incorporate Guamanian flavors by adding fresh pineapple slices and a zesty chili mayo, giving the sandwich a unique and vibrant taste. Preparation

1.In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, lime juice, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, chili powder, and a pinch of salt. Mix well to create a marinade.

9.Cover with the top half of the bun.
-
10.Serve the Guamanian-inspired Halve Hahn sandwiches immediately and enjoy!
Treat your ingredients with care...
- Chicken breasts — To ensure juicy and tender chicken, avoid overcooking. Use a meat thermometer to check for an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
- Pineapple slices — If fresh pineapple is not available, you can use canned pineapple slices. Drain them well before using.
- Guamanian hot sauce — If you can't find Guamanian hot sauce, you can substitute it with your favorite hot sauce or add a pinch of cayenne pepper for a spicy kick.
Tips & Tricks
- For added smokiness, grill the pineapple slices for a minute on each side before assembling the sandwich.
- Customize the spice level by adjusting the amount of chili powder or hot sauce in the zesty chili mayo.
- Add a slice of cheese, such as pepper jack or Swiss, for an extra layer of flavor.
- Serve with a side of sweet potato fries or a tropical fruit salad for a complete meal.
- If you prefer a lighter option, you can use lettuce wraps instead of buns.
Serving advice
Serve the Guamanian-inspired Halve Hahn sandwiches warm, accompanied by your favorite side dishes and a refreshing tropical drink.
