Ingredients
In the original Chinese version of Sweet Soup, ingredients like red beans and lotus seeds are commonly used. However, in this Algerian adaptation, we replace these ingredients with dates and almonds to cater to the flavors and preferences of Algerian cuisine. The spices used in the Algerian version also differ, with the addition of cinnamon and cardamom to infuse warm and comforting flavors. - Dates — Make sure to use soft and moist dates for the best texture and flavor.
- Almonds — Blanching the almonds helps in removing the skin easily. Toasting the almonds before garnishing adds a delightful crunch.
Tips & Tricks
- For a creamier texture, you can add a splash of coconut milk or almond milk to the soup.
- Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less sugar according to your preference.
- If you prefer a thinner consistency, you can add a little more water while simmering the soup.
