Preparation
-
1.In a bowl, combine the white wine, soy sauce, honey, olive oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, chopped parsley, rosemary, and thyme. Mix well to create the teriyaki marinade.
-
2.Place the chicken thighs in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over them. Ensure the chicken is well coated. Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for maximum flavor.
-
3.Preheat the grill or barbecue to medium-high heat.
-
4.Remove the chicken from the marinade, allowing any excess marinade to drip off. Season the chicken with salt and pepper.
-
5.Grill the chicken for about 6-8 minutes per side, or until cooked through and nicely charred.
-
6.While grilling, baste the chicken with the remaining marinade to enhance the flavor and create a glossy glaze.
-
7.Once cooked, remove the chicken from the grill and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
-
8.Slice the chicken into strips and serve hot with a drizzle of the reserved teriyaki sauce. Garnish with fresh herbs, if desired.
Treat your ingredients with care...
- Croatian white wine — Choose a dry white wine with a crisp flavor to complement the teriyaki sauce.
- Fresh herbs — Use fresh herbs for the best flavor. If unavailable, you can substitute with dried herbs, but reduce the quantity by half.
Tips & Tricks
- For a smoky flavor, grill the chicken over charcoal instead of a gas grill.
- If you prefer a sweeter teriyaki sauce, add an extra tablespoon of honey.
- Serve the teriyaki chicken with a side of Croatian-style grilled vegetables for a complete meal.
- If you don't have a grill, you can also cook the chicken in a skillet or bake it in the oven.
- Leftover teriyaki chicken can be used in sandwiches or salads for a delicious lunch option.
