Ingredients

While the original Greek Gyros is typically made with lamb or pork, this Russian-style Gyros recipe uses beef as the main protein. Additionally, the traditional Greek pita bread is replaced with Russian flatbread, known as lavash. The tzatziki sauce is also given a Russian twist by incorporating dill and sour cream. Treat your ingredients with care...

  • Beef — For the best results, choose a tender cut of beef such as sirloin or ribeye. Slice the beef thinly against the grain to ensure tenderness.
  • Lavash bread — If you can't find lavash bread, you can substitute it with tortillas or any other flatbread of your choice.
  • Sour cream — Use full-fat sour cream for a creamy and rich tzatziki sauce.

Tips & Tricks

  • To add more Russian flavors, you can sprinkle some chopped fresh dill on top of the Gyros before rolling it up.
  • If you prefer a spicier Gyros, you can add a pinch of chili flakes or a dash of hot sauce to the beef while cooking.
  • Serve the Russian-style Gyros with a side of Russian pickles for an authentic touch.
  • If you want to make the dish more filling, you can add some thinly sliced cabbage or lettuce to the Gyros before rolling it up.
  • Leftover Gyros can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in a skillet or microwave before serving.
