Ingredients

While the concept of sushi remains the same, Bosnian-style Sushi incorporates Bosnian ingredients and flavors. Instead of raw fish, we use smoked Bosnian beef and locally sourced vegetables. The sushi rice is seasoned with a touch of Bosnian honey and vinegar, adding a subtle sweetness. The traditional wasabi is replaced with a spicy Bosnian ajvar sauce, giving the rolls a unique kick. Preparation

  1. 1.
Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. 2.
In a saucepan, combine the rinsed rice and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and cover. Cook for 15 minutes or until the rice is tender.
  3. 3.
In a small bowl, mix together the Bosnian honey, rice vinegar, and salt. Set aside.
  4. 4.
Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a large bowl and let it cool slightly. Gradually pour the honey-vinegar mixture over the rice, gently folding it in with a wooden spoon.
  5. 5.
Place a sheet of nori seaweed on a bamboo sushi mat. Spread a thin layer of the seasoned rice evenly over the nori, leaving a small border at the top.
  6. 6.
Arrange slices of smoked Bosnian beef, cucumber, carrot, and red bell pepper in a line across the rice.
  7. 7.
Using the bamboo mat, tightly roll the sushi, applying gentle pressure to ensure it holds its shape.
  8. 8.
Repeat the process with the remaining ingredients.
  9. 9.
Slice each roll into bite-sized pieces and serve with Bosnian ajvar sauce for dipping.

Treat your ingredients with care...

  • Sushi rice — Rinse the rice thoroughly to remove excess starch before cooking.
  • Nori seaweed — Handle the nori gently to prevent it from tearing.
  • Bosnian honey — Use a high-quality Bosnian honey for the best flavor.
  • Smoked Bosnian beef — Choose thinly sliced beef for easier rolling.
  • Bosnian ajvar sauce — Adjust the spiciness of the ajvar sauce according to your preference.

Tips & Tricks
